What Is Residency by Investment?
Residency by investment is a country giving you the legal right to live there in exchange for money you bring in.
That’s the whole trade.
You invest. The country gives you a residence permit.
It’s often called a golden visa. Same thing.
Three real examples, and these are today’s numbers.
Panama. $300,000 in titled real estate, and you get permanent residency right away. Portugal. €500,000 into an approved fund. Real estate stopped counting there back in October 2023.
New Zealand. NZ$5 million into approved funds or businesses.
Different countries. Same trade.
Here’s the part that surprises people. Most of these don’t make you move. Panama asks for one visit every two years. New Zealand asks for 21 days across three years.
Residency by investment buys you the right to live somewhere. Not the obligation.
