What Should I Decide Before Choosing a Residency by Investment Program?

Two questions decide the country almost every time.

Two questions decide the country almost every time. Who’s coming with you. And how involved you want to be.

The first one rules out more programs than money ever does. Parents. Adult kids. A grandmother. A partner you’re not married to. Every country draws that line in a different place, and they’re not close to each other.

The second question decides the shape of the money.

Property or a fund. Something you manage or something you don’t. Somewhere you can reach in three hours or somewhere twenty-six hours away.

Answer those two honestly and the realistic list usually drops to about three countries.

Everything else out there, the rankings, the charts, the videos naming the best program of 2026, is written for a general audience.

Your family isn’t in that audience.

I’ve been doing this long enough to skip all of it and start with the two questions.

There is no “best” residency program. There is only the one that still makes sense when you put your family, your money, and your actual life into the equation.

Program rules change often, sometimes quarterly. Figures and timelines here reflect the date of publication. Confirm current requirements before acting. This is a starting point, not legal, tax, or investment advice.

Every engagement begins with a confidential conversation about your family's objectives, not a program pitch.
