Can I Include My Parents in a Residency by Investment Application?

Portugal lets you put dependent parents on the same residency application as your children.

Most programs won’t.

So the real question isn’t who technically qualifies.

It’s whether a country sees your family the way you see it.

Portugal counts parents 65 and over, and younger ones if you support them. It counts kids up to 26 if they’re studying and you’re paying.

Panama covers your spouse and dependent children.

New Zealand covers a partner and children up to 24. Parents, no.

Same kind of program. Completely different answers.

So before we look at a single country draw the circle. Everybody. Names on paper.

Grandmother. The 27-year-old. The partner you never married.

That list rules out countries faster than money does. It decides the country before the budget ever gets a vote.

If getting everyone under one roof is the whole point, say that out loud first. Or send me the family list and I’ll tell you where you all fit.

Program rules change often, sometimes quarterly. Figures and timelines here reflect the date of publication. Confirm current requirements before acting. This is a starting point, not legal, tax, or investment advice.

Have a situation worth thinking through?

Every engagement begins with a confidential conversation about your family's objectives, not a program pitch.
